The artist Francis Bernard was one of the members of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM), a trade group founded in 1925, which also included other notables, Cassandre and Jean Carlu. The group tended to embrace the innovative spirit of the "machine aesthetic" found in the art deco movement.
