A windswept dark-haired woman holds up a enormous wreath of flowers that frames her head and torso, while the skirts of her plaid dress flow in the breeze. An original vintage magazine cover for the German Art magazine, Jugend, famed for advancing the German Art Nouveau movement or "Jugendstil". The Russian born painter, caricaturist and stage designer, Alexander von Salzmann, painted hundreds of works for the magazine circa 1903 to 1925 often using a kind of cloisonnistic style of painting that employs bold and flat forms separated by dark contours. This is a lovely early example of his work.
